Inspiring Uganda's Next Generation of Manufacturers

When we host students at the Newman’s facility, it’s more than just a factory tour. It’s an investment in Uganda’s future. Seeing the wide-eyed curiosity of young learners, like these students from Kitende Modern Primary School, reminds us that the next generation of engineers, food scientists, and entrepreneurs is already sitting in classrooms across the country.

During a factory tour, the process of manufacturing comes to life. The students get to see the full journey. They witness the transformation of raw materials, like the maize and potatoes sourced from the rich Ugandan soil, into the crispy, delicious snacks they love.

They see complex machinery and meticulous quality control that ensures every bag of Movie Theatre Popcorn or Salted Potato Crisps meets a high standard.

The tour highlights that manufacturing needs more than just machine operators. It needs marketers, like the team members who champion our products at conferences, financial experts, logistics managers (to run the delivery fleet), and food scientists to perfect new flavors, like the Barbecue Flavored Crisps.

We want these young minds to see manufacturing as the engine of national economic growth. Every locally made product represents jobs, innovation, and self-sufficiency for Uganda.

For young students, a factory tour is a critical lesson in real-world application. It moves concepts from textbooks and puts them right in front of them. When they hold a bag of Newman’s snacks, we want them to feel a connection to the entire process, realizing that they could one day be the person designing the next flavor, managing the production line, or leading the company.

By showing them the path from the seedling to the snack, we hope to plant a seed of inspiration: that the future of Ugandan industry belongs to them.
