At Newman’s, we believe that the journey to a great snack begins in the soil, tended by the diligent hands of the farmers who are the true champions of our value chain. As we celebrate International Women’s Month and look ahead to the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF2026), we are shining a light on the dignity and hard work of the women farmers who make our growth possible.
Earlier this year, we explored the global significance of IYWF2026. Today, we bring that story home through the voice of a woman who represents the resilience of the Ugandan soil.
For many small-scale farmers in Uganda, one of the greatest challenges isn’t just growing the crop; it’s the uncertainty of the market. Our partnership with farmers aims to replace that fear with a guarantee, as reflected in the story of Kayesu Annet, a farmer of five years.
“I want to thank the people of Newman’s because we can now be sure that our products will be sold,” Annet shares. “Being sure of a market helps us because we are not scared that our products will get spoilt without a buyer.”
This isn’t just about business; it’s about creating stability. When a farmer like Annet knows her harvest has a home, she can plan for her family’s future with confidence.
The impact of this collaboration extends far beyond the farm. For the women farmers in our value chain, their hard work translates into tangible changes for the next generation.
“From this arrangement with the people of Newman’s, I have been able to ensure that my children go to school,” says Annet. “At least now I can do something for my people.”
By providing a reliable market, we aren’t just buying produce; we are contributing to the educational foundation of children and the economic empowerment of households.
In our celebration of Women’s Month, Kayesu Annet shared a powerful reminder for every woman striving to build a better life for her family:
“To all my fellow women, don’t undermine any work which can give you decent pay. Let us work hard to make our families better!”
At Newman’s, we remain committed to honoring these champions. Whether they are planting maize in the field or leading in offices, these women are the architects of society’s grand success.
We recognize your invaluable contribution!
